XSTEF’s tennis programming is split into four primary divisions. our tennis programs are available to all members.



XS offers two different tracks for juniors. Join anytime.


Junior Development

Designed for a recreational progression that can enable a child to potentially play high-school tennis

  • Red Ball, Ages 4-6

  • Orange Ball, Ages 7-9

  • Green Ball, Ages 10-13

  • Yellow Ball, Ages 14-18


Designed for those who intend to pursue college tennis scholarships. Students are grouped based on Universal Tennis Ratings (UTR)

  • Pre-Academy (UTR 1.0-2.9)

  • Academy (UTR 3.0-5.49)

  • High Performance (UTR 5.5-7.9)

  • Junior Elite (UTR 8.0+)


XSTEF offers group and private lessons for adults of all skill levels. XSTEF is a leader in tennis instruction and competitive programs. All of our lessons, teams, and leagues are based on player skill level. Please download our class schedule for current class offerings. Adult leagues

Leagues for adults who have a USTA rating of 3.5 — 4.0.

Group LessonS

Groups of 3 or more. For beginner to advanced tennis players.

Pro Division

Our pro division is intended for professional tennis players who are pursuing a career in tennis. Professional tennis players such as Taylor Townsend, and Sloane Stephens have all trained at XS under Coach Kamau Murray. Over the courts of his coaching career Kamau has accumulated, (2) ITF titles, (2) WTA International titles, (1) WTA Premier title, (1) WTA Premier Mandatory title, (1) US Open Title, (1) French Open Finalist. Currently, this group includes an Olympic Gold Medalist (Monica Puig), and a number of Top 20 ITF juniors making the transition onto the pro circuit. These athletes do fitness and tennis training individually and as a cohort at XSTEF. To join this cohort, contact info@xstennis.org.

Courts must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance. If you cancel a lesson less than 24 hours in advance, you will be charged full amount due.

Guest Policy

$15 guest fee will apply for each non-member after first complimentary visit. Guests are allowed only three visits after which they are requested to purchase membership.

36ft Mini Courts

Reserve a court for just $10 per hour

Walk-ons must give up court at any time a court is guaranteed. No adults on 36ft courts unless playing with a child.

Teaching philosophy: Nothing makes me smile more than when a student “gets it” from something that we are working on and they smile

Certifications: USPTA, Sanchez-Casal Spanish Way of Tennis Certification

Things to know: I traded bond futures at CBOT for 14 years and also had a healthcare company that provided therapy for kids from the age of 0-3 who have developmental disabilities


Ron McDaniel

First started playing tennis: Age 11

Highest level of competitive tennis: Professional

Education: THE Ohio State University

Number of years teaching: 30

Teaching philosophy: I am a technician with the belief that skill level is determined by repetition under pressure

Hometown: Montego Bay, Jamaica

Highest level of competitive tennis: USTA Men’s Professional Satellite & Future Tournament 2001

Education: Montego Bay High School

Number of years teaching: 20+

Teaching philosophy: I enjoy teaching and want to pass on that joy to students

Certifications: USPTR, Cardio Tennis, Certification for Junior Development (10 and under)., Drill & Play for adults

Things to know: Clifton’s passion for Tennis began at the young age of 6 years old after following in his brother’s path. Cliff’s a good guy!


Precious Morgan

Hometown: Chicago, Illinois

Highest level of competitive tennis: National tennis level competitor in Singles and Doubles, CDTA women’s #1.

Education: Gage Park High School, Tilden Math & Science High School, Eastern University & Chicago State University (BS in Physical Education & BS in Athletic Administration)

Number of years teaching: 7 years at XS Tennis

Teaching philosophy: I love teaching tennis because it’s the sport of a lifetime and I love watching the priceless smiles on the kids’ faces

Certifications: USPTR, Professional Adult Instructor, 10 & under Professional Instructor USPTA, Recreational Coach, Net Generation certified Coach, JTT XSTENNIS Team Coordinator

Things to know: I’m a Chicago Park District P.E instructor, supervisor, and lifeguard. I’m also a Chicago Board of Education PE teacher, Skier Black terrains. I received 4 year full scholarship for track & field. I love traveling.


Kris Powell

Education: De La Salle Institute, Prairie View A&M University

Teaching philosophy: Effort counts twice as much as talent. You can have all the talent in the world, but without passion and perseverance you're wasting your time.

Darrell Robbins

Teaching philosophy: No matter the style, every player should have every skill. The student should be feeling good, and enjoying their points

Things to know: My all time favorite player is the less-heralded Marat Safin

Things to know: I have over 10 years of experience as a professional photographer, producer & videographer. My favorite tennis memory was playing in the U.S. Open Pre-Qualifiers
